Throughout the month of May, Open Cellars events once again enjoyed great success across Switzerland’s wine-growing regions. From German-speaking Switzerland to the Three Lakes region, from Valais to Ticino, and through Vaud and Geneva, thousands of wine lovers, curious visitors and tourists accepted the invitation of Swiss winegrowers to discover the richness and diversity of Swiss wines.
More than 900 wineries opened their doors throughout the country: nearly 260 in the canton of Vaud, 241 in Valais, more than 210 in German-speaking Switzerland, over 80 in Ticino, around 70 in Geneva and more than 40 in the Three Lakes and Neuchâtel region. It was a unique opportunity to meet producers, taste the latest vintages and discover the terroirs that make Swiss viticulture so distinctive.
The 2026 edition was marked by particularly encouraging results. In the canton of Vaud, almost 100,000 winery visits were recorded, a new record that confirms the growing public interest in Swiss wines and wine tourism. In Valais, where the event celebrated its 20th anniversary, 241 wineries took part, compared to just 98 at the inaugural edition in 2007.
The success of Open Cellars is based on a simple and authentic concept: meeting the women and men behind the wines, exploring Switzerland’s wine regions and sharing convivial moments in exceptional landscapes. From the terraced vineyards of Lavaux to the slopes of Valais, from the shores of Lakes Neuchâtel, Biel and Murten to the landscapes of Ticino, visitors were able to discover the diversity of Swiss grape varieties and wine traditions.
Beyond wine tastings, many wineries offered regional specialities and food-and-wine pairings that showcased local products. In Valais, the event generates around 40% new customers for participating wineries each year and represents nearly 10% of their annual direct-sales turnover.
The 2026 edition confirms a clear trend: consumers are increasingly looking for authentic experiences and direct connections with the people behind the products.
