Screening of a documentary on ungrafted vines

07 Sep 2026Event, Vaud

The 7aboire.ch Association is organising:

  • Monday 7 September 2026, at 6.30 pm,
  • at the Cinétoile Malley Lumières in Prilly

a screening of the documentary ‘Francs de pied, a new utopia?’,

directed by David Bessenay and Jean-Pierre Vial and produced by Cameras Rouge.

This screening will be followed by a discussion with Dr José Vouillamoz, a world-renowned expert in ampelography and genetic analysis, and co-author of the book *Wine Grapes*...

And a tasting of two wines that illustrate the film’s themes:

  • Syrah Franc de Pied by Alexandre Delétraz, from the Cave des Amandiers in Saillon
  • Heida Veritas from St. Jodern Kellerei in Visperterminen, with its oenologist, Michael Rock.

For 120 years, all European vines, having succumbed to phylloxera, have been grafted onto American rootstocks. All of them? No! There are still a few hectares of ungrafted vines, a legacy of the past (pre-phylloxera); or the result of a fierce determination on the part of a few producers to reintroduce the historic rootstock and rediscover the flavour of wines of yesteryear, despite the threat of phylloxera, a devastating aphid still present in Europe.

Bookings can be made on the website www.7aboire.ch at a cost of CHF 50 per person (including the screening of the documentary, the presentation and discussion with José Vouillamoz – and the tasting).
