Light, fresh and local – summer wine doesn't have to come from abroad. Switzerland has a lot to offer when it comes to chilled enjoyment. Whether by the lake, at a picnic or as an aperitif on the balcony, a well-chilled Swiss wine makes every summer day a little bit better.
With over 250 grape varieties and six wine regions, Switzerland offers a surprising variety. A tangy Chasselas from Vaud, a velvety Merlot from Ticino or a fruity Petite Arvine from Valais – everyone will find their favourite here.
When temperatures rise, wine can be a little cooler. Fresh, fruity white wines with moderate alcohol content and lively acidity are ideal – such as a Räuschling from Lake Zurich or a Sauvignon Blanc from Geneva.
Rosé wines are also very popular: how about an Œil de Perdrix from the Three Lakes region?
Tip: chill wines to 8–10 °C before serving to allow their aromas to develop fully and keep them pleasantly refreshing.
Do you prefer red wine? You don't have to go without it, even in the height of summer. Try a light Pinot Noir, the Swiss classic par excellence. Served slightly chilled, it is elegant, fresh and perfect for warm days.
But this summer isn't just about enjoying wine – it's also about solving puzzles! The Swiss Wine Summer Challenge brings exciting tasks related to Swiss wine directly to your social media feeds.
For example: a pineapple, a mango, a passion fruit and salt – which wine is hidden behind this exotic aroma profile? Or: Which grape variety is celebrating its 175th birthday, was long sold under the wrong name and is mainly known in German-speaking Switzerland?
In the coming weeks, we will be posting new challenges regularly on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. Anyone who takes part and finds the right answer will have the chance to win attractive prizes.
Of course, culinary delights should not be neglected either: are you looking for a restaurant with an excellent selection of Swiss wines? The Swiss Wine Gourmet label distinguishes over 1,300 establishments that serve Swiss wines on their wine list – from charming country inns to top restaurants.
