Local wine or imported organic?

Which pollutes more: a locally produced Swiss wine or an imported organic wine? And in Switzerland, do we drink more Swiss or imported wine?
Behind these seemingly simple questions there are often a few surprises… The world of wine is far more complex than an elegant bottle or a glass of ruby or golden nectar might suggest.

Swiss winegrowers work every day to protect nature, to promote economic and social sustainability, and to maintain the landscape. Their work, profoundly human, is essential to the reputation and the steadily rising quality of Swiss wines. But it also comes at a cost: specialists estimate that one hectare of terraced vines, cultivated in the traditional way, requires around 1,900 hours of work per year.
